ABOUT US
Waterway was started in 1989 by Ed Okinsky, a Firefighter in New Jersey with the Department of Defense. Over the past 20 years Ed has tested, developed, and refined the equipment and testing process we currently utilize. Since 1989, Waterway has tested over 70 million feet of fire hose. Ed continues to this day testing hose in South Jersey, along with multiple franchises across the Unites States. Waterway is the only hose testing company in the USA that has attained an ISO-9001 Quality Management certification.
Waterway Long Island is owned and operated by the Schuman family, a family with a deep history, tradition, and pride in Long Island's fire service. Three generations have served as members of the Wantagh Fire Department since 1953. Steve has been a member since 1976 and served as chief from 1993 through 1999, including during the department's 100th anniversary. Steve Jr. has been a WFD member since 2004 and is also a career firefighter in the FDNY. Both Steve & Steven Jr. are currently assigned to Wantagh Engine 692 following in the footsteps of Ex-Chief Harold Schuman, who also formed Nassau Fire Apparatus Service in the late 1960's.

What fire-fighting family would be complete without it's own fire engine? We proudly own Chemical 3, a 1930 Model A Ford Fire Engine which was once an original piece of Wantagh FD apparatus. It is frequently seen at local parades, shows, weddings, and recently completed a 2-year exhibit at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum at Mitchell Field.

We are extremely conscientious, customer-service oriented, and committed to providing quality service to the local departments. We are on every job, know what you expect, and personally guarantee your satisfaction. We frequently see our customers and apparatus we have worked on at local firematic events and are always available for questions, suggestions, and support. You are not going to get that type of dedication and service with an out of state company, or by commissioned salesman. But don't take our word, we encourage you to ask any of our customers.
